“At his “Rally for Our Republic” in Atlanta, Ossoff did something Democrats have too often hesitated to do: he spoke with moral clarity. Not with euphemism. Not with hedging. Not with the weary language of “both sides.” He called the chaos what it is. He called the corruption what it is. And he named the power structure propping it up — the “Epstein class” — without blinking.” • @Jon Ossoffhttps://robertfields39.substack.com/p/this-is-not-a-moment-for-fear
Personally, I think using socialism fear as a factor in choosing a presidential candidate would be a disaster we have already experienced. The Dem elite joined with the republicans in using that tactic against Bernie and it FAILED. They ended up having to use a completely different scheme-getting all the other candidates to drop out and endorse the old guy who wasn't even in the debate. They had to because Bernies crowd was $5.00 at a time getting him all the money he needed to be eligible by the democrat policies. And why did the guy who was not taking money from PACs have that many people filling his campaign coffer with small donations? Because they all want universal healthcare and he was the only candidate ready to fight for it. All the other candidates were dodging it. deriding him as a socialist. Likely because of the PAC money they were/are getting. In this climate, the people are more than pissed off and not just with trump but with the system that spawned him. They're tired of the "socialist" slurs and can see right through it. The next candidate had better be ready to seriously push for universal healthcare, against funding Israel, start standing up for democratic socialism and be ready to get his/her campaign money from the people. An My god protect the DNC if they try to pull another stunt like the last time! My opinion for what it's worth.
Ossoff is not accepting any corporate donations for his Senate re-election campaign. Ossoff is a Jew, so the reference to not being a socialist is meant as a warning that this tactic of attacking every Jewish politician as a small “s” socialist, won’t work with a guy who has a consistently liberal voting record, not unlike Bernie Sanders, but doesn’t have to brand himself as socialist to establish his bone files as a Progressive. I disagree that America’s voting population is “over” its reflexive rejection of “socialism,” even though most of what has succeeded in American domestic policy to make our lives better looks a lot like socialism to me. If he ever does make a move to run for president, I’m hoping he stays focussed on fixing things that Trump has broken and doesn’t get pushed into a box like “He’s just a socialist,” or “He’s just a Jew.” If he stays focussed on the things he talked about in his speech, the Dems can win in 2028 and work to rebuild our democracy and repair the Project 2025 damage could begin in earnest, because that would be his number one agenda item. That’s my thinking. Fix what the Epstein Class has broken first, then let’s get on with joining the rest of the world with universal healthcare, immigration reform and affordable education.
Thanks for sharing this Jim. I saw only a small news bite on the TV and this was really illustrative of his full range. I agree that I could get excited about him for president as well. Pat
